RICO D. CORDOVA
Born: July 12, 1974
Salt Lake City, Utah

I think I was four years old when I first took an interest in music. Although I currently play the bass guitar I also play several other instruments including guitar and keyboards.
I started my first guitar lesson when I was eight. Later, when I was around sixteen, I picked up the bass and, since then, have been like a man possessed.
My musical tastes could best be described as ecclectic including many styles such as Classical, New Age, Flamenco, Rock, Funk, Reggae, Soul, Arabic, Jazz, Blues and Hip Hop.
The musicians who have influenced me most are Flea, Geddy Lee, Stanley Clarke, John Paul Jones, Michael Hedges, Alex Lifeson, Edward VanHalen, Andres Segoria, Nicolo Paganini, Trent Reznor and Carlos Montoya.
Musically, as well as artistically, I place a strong emphasis on technique, form, style and emotion. I believe that any great piece of art has the right blend of variety and repetition (too much variety creates chaos and too much repetition creates boredom).
Before "Lizzy Redshawl" I wallowed in countless, dead-end 'garage bands' until I met Randall Taylor and became involved in my first project with him in the early 90's as part of a short-lived group named "Blackshaw Lazareau" then, again, with "Carpe Diem".
My other interests include arts and literature, sports, politics, astronomy, history, eastern and metaphysical philosophies, movies and outdoor recreation. Music, however, will always be my greatest passion as well as my 'life-blood'.
